A BOUTIQUE HOTEL MADE BY ARTISANS, LOCATED IN BALI, INDONESIA
Katamama is a boutique hotel made by artisans. Every detail has been handmade or handpicked, using Indonesia’s centuries-old traditions interpreted in a modern and timeless context.
Collaborating with the few remaining artisans who still produce the original way, Katamama supports surrounding crafts communities while paying heed to environmental factors.
Katamama gives voice to the artisans of Indonesia. We want to preserve their almost-forgotten crafts using the international platform of the hotel.
We offer our guests a genuine and bespoke stay experience, whilst supporting and enabling our neighbouring crafts communities.
Made by Artisans
From bricks to bed throws, Katamama was crafted by the hands of artisans.
Meet the Artisans
Over 1.5 million hand-pressed Balinese temple bricks make up the facade.
More than 100 metres of traditional fabric, hand-woven over four years, was used to make bespoke bath robes, table runners and throws for each suite.
25,000 strands of orchid vine, gathered and hand-woven by the Dayak tribespeople of Kalimantan, were fashioned into one-of-a-kind amenities for our hotel guests.
Preserving Indonesia’s Original Crafts
We seek to reawaken interest in the age-old crafts of Indonesia, creating a legacy for them to live on forever more.
Ancient Techniques in a Modern Context
We collaborate with the leading designers and architects of today to create Katamama’s distinctive look.
Supporting the Community
Our “Brick by Brick” campaign aims to empower the surrounding crafts communities of Katamama. Through our craft workshops, fully equipped work spaces installed in each of our partnering villages, we help Indonesian artisans to turn what they do into a real business.
In every endeavour – design or gastronomy – we source locally and responsibly.
Akademi, Katamama’s lobby bar, serves cocktails made from indigenous ingredients in locally-made ceramic cocktail beakers.
MoVida, Katamama’s ground floor restaurant, spins the brand’s trademark Spanish fare with high quality, locally sourced products.
